Aamir Khan’s latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par, finally arrived in cinemas on June 20, following considerable anticipation from audiences. While it didn’t replicate the grand openings of Aamir’s past blockbusters like Dangal or Ghajini, the film was always positioned as a niche offering, relying more on audience feedback and steady growth rather than a record-breaking opening day. As expected, its first-day performance was modest but respectable, with the film collecting ₹10.7 crore across its Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu versions, as reported by Sacnilk. The majority of this revenue was generated by the Hindi version.
The film continued its measured run on its second day, bringing in ₹2.32 crore by Saturday afternoon, raising its total collection to ₹13.02 crore. Industry insiders remain optimistic about the movie’s weekend performance, particularly since early reviews from the public have been predominantly positive. With Sunday being a holiday, it is anticipated that evening and night shows could attract higher footfalls, offering a potential boost to the film’s box office numbers.
Trade analysts noted that part of the opening day earnings benefited from promotional ticket pricing on food delivery apps and bulk bookings from educational institutions, which helped increase viewership. Additionally, as is typical for Aamir Khan films, the movie is reportedly performing better in premium multiplex chains such as PVR and INOX, compared to its reception in smaller towns, single-screen theatres, and two or three-tier cities.
In mass-market areas, Housefull 5 currently holds a stronger position, and unless Sitaare Zameen Par experiences significant growth driven by audience recommendations and strong word of mouth, it may find it challenging to overtake its competitor. However, given the early positive public response, there remains a possibility for the film to carve out a successful run in the coming days.
