In an age of the Trump Republican party, former Romney staffers have been speaking out with their opinions about Romney’s vote to impeach the President. It’s safe to say that some are less happy than others. Either way, Stephanie Grisham, Rick Gorka and Ryan Bilodeau are speaking out.

In his famous impeachment speech, Romney made his case, saying that “The grave question the Constitution tasks senators to answer is whether the president committed an act so extreme and egregious that it rises to the level of a ‘high crime and misdemeanor.’ Yes, he did.”

Current White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, who worked for Romney in 2012, said that “Only the President’s political opponents – all Democrats, and one failed Republican presidential candidate – voted for the manufactured impeachment articles.” It’s safe to say that Ms. Grisham was not too thrilled with Mitt’s vote.

Rick Gorka, a former Romney staffer who is now a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, took a harsher tone in a recent Tweet: “I believe Mitt Romney is motivated by bitterness and jealously that @realDonaldTrump accomplished what he has failed to do multiple times. His desire to pander to the chattering class has gotten the best of him…again.”

Ouch!

More nuanced was 2008 Rhode Island coordinator and spokesman Ryan Bilodeau. He recently Tweeted:

People have asked me how I feel about Romney’s vote to impeach. I worked for him. He’s good & thoughtful. But he cares too much about his image & has spent his entire career hiding behind things/people in order to justify any political positions that might be controversial. He was pro-choice in the 90’s because of the experience of a female family friend. Then he was pro-life in the 2000’s when running for Prez because of what he called the slippery slope of stem cell research. Now when voting for impeachment it was because of … his faith? It’s never that these positions are good in themselves, but because he feels backed into a position because of some external factor. Have some courage, man. Just tell us how you feel and let people take it or leave it.
