Approximately 8 million people in the Muslim majority territory of Kashmir Valley, Jammu, and Kashmir (J-&-K) have been confined to their homes with extremely restricted contact. Increased shortages of basic needs, particularly medicines and healthcare, are recorded in alarming reports coming from the region. HHRD has been closely monitoring the Kashmir situation; however, HHRD has not been able to work on the ground in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. However, HHRD has been making efforts to facilitate Kashmiris financially and materially through the help of some partner organizations.

Helping Hand USA is in contact via landlines with humanitarian teams working on the Kashmir Valley J-&-K ground. It has been heard that there will be a tremendous and urgent humanitarian need as soon as this lock-down ends. Henceforth, to meet the region’s emergency needs, HHRDhas launched the “Kashmir Relief Fund” to support families on both sides of the Line of Control (LOC) through their teams in AJK.And with the support of a verified partner NGO in Kashmir Valley Jammu and Kashmir (J-&-K). Moreover, Helping Hand USA is encouraging NGOs to come together to support the opening of safe and stable humanitarian corridors to save the innocent lives of Kashmiris.

HHRD’s Past Contributions in Kashmir

Helping Hand USA does have a track record of working on both sides of the LOC via seasonal programs such as Winter Supplies, Global Qurbani, Ramadan Food, and AJK’s Orphan Support, Water for Life, Skills Growth, and Medical In-Kind Gifts Program. The Helping Hand for Relief and Development team in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) manages assistance for 750 funded orphans; the Hospitals and Clinics Medical In-Kind Gifts Program. Furthermore, skills training has been provided toaround 300 women and young people.

More than ten annual Water for Life Projects, and seasonal projects such as Ramadan Rice, Eidul Adha Qurbani, Aqeeqah and Sadaqah Qurbani, and Winter Provisions have been launched in the region.  Similarly, their verified reliable partner NGO” Support Foundation J-&-K ” conducts annual distribution of Ramadan Rice, Qurbani in Eidul Adha, Aqeeqah & Sadaqah Qurbani, and Winter Provisions Program in Kashmir Valley Jammu and Kashmir via HHRD grants.

In the aftermath of the Kashmir Valley J-&-K floods in 2014, HHRD also provided immediate emergency relief services. Besides, HHRD earned a grant from the Islamic Society of Nevada. A total of 52 artisans were trained in different skills to begin making their living with the HELP Foundation J-&-K help.

As an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) in AJK, Helping Hand USA is looking forward to serving the needs of internally displaced people affected by this situation in AJK after receiving the “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) from the government.Knowing that there will be a pressing need for disaster aid, Helping Hand USA is working to be completely prepared to open up opportunities for humanitarian assistance.Knowing that there will be an urgent need for disaster aid, Helping Hand USA is working to be completely ready to open up opportunities for humanitarian aid.
