We took the time to ask the upcoming rapper, Kidd Lee, a few questions about what she does and who she is. This is what we came up with.
Who are your biggest inspirations right now in music?: Right now, I listen to a lot of old-school rappers, and I think as of right now, Lauryn Hill, NF, Caleb Gordon, Hulvey, Tupac, and many others inspire me. As you can see, I like a variety of artists.
What gives you that drive to make music?: I stay prayed up like a lot. You have to put God first to achieve anything you want to do in life. God gives me my drive, and I honestly can’t do any of what I’m doing without him. Always trust him and put him first.
What made you start making music, and when did you know it was for you?: Honestly, I just picked it up. I was always a musically inclined kid, and I’ve always just loved the way music made me feel. It all started as a joke one day, but then I actually started to feel like I was supposed to be doing that. I quit a few times, but something would always make me come back, and that’s how I knew it was for me, and it was all meant to be.
Where do you see yourself in the future?: Walking the path that God wants me on, of course. It’s all in his will, never mine.
We noticed a change in profanity in your music. We noticed you stopped using explicit language. Is there any specific reason why?: I know that Kids are listening in, and I don’t want to give off some false image anymore. I realized we need more positivity in the world, and I want to be a part of that. I will no longer be using profanity in anything because I know I can be hard even without the bad words.
What next for you?: Hopefully, much more, but as I said, it’s in God’s hands, never mine.
