The Delhi High Court ruled today after hearing Amitabh Bachchan’s appeal that the actor’s name, image, or voice cannot be used without his consent.
The court also directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and telecom service providers, to remove flagged content.
Justice Navin Chawla noted that the actor “is aggrieved” by those who use his celebrity status to promote their goods and services without his permission. “It cannot seriously be disputed that the Plaintiff is a well-known personality and is also represented in various advertisements,” the judge said.
“I’m only providing a snapshot of the situation. Someone has begun printing his face on T-shirts that are being made. His poster is being sold by someone. Amitabh Bachchan.com has been registered by someone. This is the reason we came, “Senior attorney Harish Salve argued on behalf of Mr. Bachchan.
