On Friday, OpenAI released a new tool that can assist computer programmers with writing code, resolving bugs, and conducting testing.

This type of technology is referred to by artificial intelligence experts as an A.I. agent. Chatbots can write poetry, create graphics, and respond to queries, but agents can use other online tools and services. This could be anything from combining data from multiple web sources to placing a DoorDash supper order.

In a blog post, OpenAI stated that its new tool, Codex, is capable of handling several jobs concurrently.

According to the business, Codex will be accessible to all ChatGPT Pro subscribers starting on Friday. ChatGPT Pro is a $200/month service that gives users access to all of OpenAI’s most recent technologies. Codex will be made available through its other premium services as well.

According to two people familiar with the deal, OpenAI is also in talks to pay about $3 billion to acquire Windsurf, another programming tool driven by artificial intelligence. The tech sector is quickly adopting tools that can swiftly generate computer code, and the acquisition might bring OpenAI thousands of new clients.

In an attempt to broaden its product line beyond its well-known chatbot, ChatGPT, OpenAI is considering making what would be its biggest acquisition.
