After much anticipation, OnePlus officially introduced its artificial intelligence roadmap on May 27, 2025, under the branding “OnePlus AI.” This move places the Chinese tech company alongside other major players such as Samsung and Motorola, who have also launched proprietary AI ecosystems like Galaxy AI and Moto ai, respectively. OnePlus AI is set to make its debut with the launch of the upcoming compact flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 13s, on June 5.
A distinctive element of the OnePlus 13s is a customizable button called the Plus Key, which serves as the gateway to the OnePlus AI features. Unlike other manufacturers that have added new buttons for AI access, OnePlus has repurposed its well-known Alert Slider into this new multifunctional button. According to the company, the Plus Key can be programmed to perform various actions, including toggling sound profiles, launching the camera, initiating translation, or starting a voice recording.
Additionally, a new AI capability called AI Plus Mind can be activated by pressing the Plus Key. This tool is designed to help users quickly capture, organize, and retrieve essential information from their screens. Whether it’s a schedule, a booking detail, or a listing, users can save this information either by pressing the Plus Key or using a three-finger swipe gesture. The captured content is then stored in a dedicated section called Mind Space.
AI Plus Mind uses contextual analysis to extract useful data such as dates or locations from text or images and can automatically add them to a user’s calendar. An integrated AI Search function allows users to retrieve stored content using natural language, making it easier to access saved details. Later in the year, OnePlus plans to enhance this feature with automatic content categorization to improve organization and usability.
The OnePlus 13s will be the first to offer AI Plus Mind at launch, with a planned rollout to the rest of the OnePlus 13 lineup through future software updates. Additional OnePlus smartphones released later this year are also expected to support these features.
Along with other Google apps, OnePlus has stated that Google’s Gemini AI will be integrated into OxygenOS apps like Notes and Clock. Gemini Live will allow users to have real-time AI interactions based on their camera view or screen content through screen sharing.
On the topic of privacy, OnePlus stated that its AI capabilities prioritize on-device processing in a secure, trusted environment. When more advanced processing is necessary, the company uses its Private Computing Cloud, an encrypted platform that works within a Trusted Execution Environment to protect user data across devices, cloud servers, and data transfers.
