Hema Malini, a seasoned performer, claims she wouldn’t hesitate to perform a kissing scene provided the moment worked well within the confines of a movie. Her comments follow a kissing sequence that her actor husband Dharmendra performed in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani over a month ago.
The love family comedy drama directed by Karan Johar was out in July, and among its many accolades, it was commended for portraying intimacy between two elderly characters. Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra’s kissing scene became one of the most talked-about parts of the movie.
Hemal Malini was asked in an interview, if she had watched the movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, to which the veteran said, “I haven’t seen the film yet.” When asked if she would accept a similar role with a kissing scene, Hema Malini responded, “Kyun nahi karenge, bilkul karenge. Why not, why won’t I do it, I’ll take it on. I might be able to if it’s nice, relatable, and fits the movie.
In an earlier interview, Dharmendra discussed the kissing scene and admitted that he had got many letters from his admirers on the specific scene. He laughed “Maine bola, ‘Yaar, yeh toh mere daaye haath ka kaam hai (I can do this in my sleep) Baaye haath se karwana hai, woh bhi karwa lo.”
There was “no debate, no question” over the scene, according to Karan Johar, who also commented on it and told Film Companion. “Haan theek hai karna hai, fine,” said Dharam Ji. Two outstanding veterans performed flawlessly and without hesitation. It was wonderful to see them. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, premiered to acclaim and is now a movie office hit.
