In a fresh addition to India’s budget 5G smartphone market, homegrown brand Lava has officially launched two new devices — the Storm Lite and Storm Play. The company introduced these models on Friday with attractive introductory pricing, placing the Storm Lite at ₹7,999 and the Storm Play at ₹9,999, aiming to deliver advanced features at affordable rates.
Both smartphones are built around large 6.75-inch HD+ displays that incorporate a notch design and boast a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, enhancing the viewing and scrolling experience. Powering the Storm Lite is the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 chipset, while the Storm Play runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7060, marking a notable first for this segment. Lava emphasized that these devices would set a new standard in their category, introducing premium specifications like LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage for the first time at this price point.
The Storm Lite is offered in two storage variants: 64GB and 128GB, paired with 4GB of RAM, which users can expand virtually by another 4GB. The Storm Play, meanwhile, features 6GB of RAM, extendable by an additional 6GB through virtual memory, and comes with 128GB of internal storage.
Both models have a 50MP Sony IMX752 primary sensor on the back of the camera. The Storm Lite adds a 2MP secondary sensor to its setup, while the Storm Play focuses on the main lens. On the front, the Storm Lite carries an 8MP camera, and the Storm Play features a 5MP shooter for selfies and video calls.
Both devices run on Android 15 out of the box and are backed by a robust 5000mAh battery, supported by USB Type-C wired charging. Additional features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and an IP64 rating, ensuring resistance against dust and splashes. Lava has also promised one Android OS upgrade and two years of security updates for both models.
Speaking about the launch, Sumit Singh, head of product at Lava, highlighted the Storm series as a representation of cutting-edge innovation in the budget segment, calling these new releases true benchmarks for future devices in this space.
