As it concludes its second day in theaters, Tom Cruise’s most recent film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, has swept the Indian box office and shows no signs of slowing down. Since its release on May 17, the action-packed film has garnered immense attention and achieved a spectacular start, securing the biggest opening for a Hollywood title in India this year. The momentum continued into Sunday, as the film kept pace with its impressive debut, rapidly climbing the box office charts and eclipsing the lifetime earnings of multiple recent Marvel films within just two days of release.
As per estimates reported by Sacnilk, the film raked in ₹16.50 crore on its opening day. It matched that figure on its second day, bringing its total earnings to ₹33 crore in just 48 hours. This performance already accounts for 30% of the entire lifetime box office take of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which hit screens two years ago. Even more notably, it has already outgrossed Marvel’s Thunderbolts, which had managed ₹22.50 crore in India, as well as Captain America: Brave New World, which reached ₹23 crore. With such robust momentum, industry watchers are confident that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is well on its way to crossing the ₹50 crore mark within its opening week.
The true test for the film, however, begins with the weekday run starting Monday. After a powerful weekend debut, the key to its sustained success lies in maintaining audience interest over the weekdays. Early reception and widespread acclaim suggest the film is well-positioned to weather the usual midweek drop in collections. This strong start in India sets the stage for its upcoming global launch, with the film scheduled to hit theatres in the United States and other major markets on May 23. Given its current trajectory, trade analysts are predicting this installment could become the first in the Mission: Impossible franchise to breach the coveted $1 billion mark globally.
In this installment, Tom Cruise returns as the ever-resilient Ethan Hunt, with longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie once again directing. Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales, Angela Bassett, Nick Offerman, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Holt McCallany, and Greg Tarzan Davis are among the film’s fantastic ensemble cast members. Released in India by Paramount Pictures and Skydance, the film is available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, appealing to a wide demographic and further fueling its box office performance.
