The new feature was unveiled by the internet search behemoth at ‘The Android Show: I/O Edition’. For the most part, it enhances Factory Reset Protection (FRP), a security mechanism that renders stolen phones useless. In Android 15, Goole made a number of enhancements to FRP, and the upcoming Android release will make it even stronger.

Although Google hasn’t made any formal announcements regarding the new feature, the story included a screenshot that it claimed provided insight into the company’s intentions.

In the screenshot, the phone’s screen flashes a warning about a factory reset, which Android 16 will compel users to perform on a stolen handset if they manage to get past the setup procedure.

This implies that the business will prevent the device from functioning at all until the user resets it and inputs their Google account information or the previous lock screen.
