RSL Avoids Late Scare To Beat Sporting KC On Road

The first 45 minutes at Children’s Mercy Park were exciting.

Real Salt Lake demonstrated their ability to find the back of the net even with Chicho Arango on the bench, despite an early assault from SKC.

In the fourteenth minute, Andres Gomez demonstrated his quickness by outpacing the group after receiving a pass from Diego Luna.

From the right side of the box, Gomez drew in the goaltender and fired a shot past him into the lower left corner.

Braian Ojeda was given a foul in the area in the 23rd minute, which led to a penalty kick for Kansas City.

Goalie Gavin Beavers, 19, made a spectacular save on the PK on the right side of the net to preserve a 1-0 lead.

Sporting KC made two consecutive tries to score in the 26th and 28th minutes, but RSL eventually broke through.

After a deflection, Stephen Afrifa equalised in the 28th minute.

However, Real Salt Lake wasn’t finished there. After a wonderful long pass from Luna, Anderson Julio got an easy look at goal.

RSL regained the lead with a simple chip shot from just outside the six-yard box.
