The Mountain View tech titan produces some of the greatest camera phones, despite critics’ complaints that it overuses artificial intelligence to make photographs appear overprocessed. Therefore, you can still snap some amazing pictures with some of the finest Pixel Camera alternatives, even if you don’t like the Pixel Camera app. But be prepared to experience Android 16’s Material 3 Expressive overhaul if you rely on the Pixel Camera app.

The Material 3 Expressive is now being used by Google to overhaul its Android apps, and some of major apps—like Gmail—have already begun to receive it. According to Android Authority’s APK breakdown, the Pixel phone manufacturer has already begun working on the Pixel Camera app, so it might be the next in line.

The Pixel Camera makeover looks like this

To conclude that Material 3 Expressive will be available in the Pixel Camera app, we have something more entertaining than the dull code strings. By successfully enabling Android 16’s design language in the Pixel Camera version 9.9.106.767010485.16, the folks at Android Police have allowed us to take a closer look at the new user interface.

The Pixel Camera app’s Settings screen displayed the change. There are no new control choices on the revised Settings page, but it now has brown toggle switches and a more colorful avatar. Additionally, the new toggle switches now display a “x” when deactivated and a checkmark when activated. This is a less obvious method of informing users if a feature is enabled or disabled.

Additionally, all of the control settings are displayed in white boxes with rounded sides on the redesigned Settings page, which now has a brown-toned background. Additionally, we can see the little distance between those boxes, which facilitates scanning control possibilities.

These are the significant shifts we are witnessing at the moment. That does not imply, however, that Google would solely alter the Pixel Camera app’s Settings tab. The camera viewfinder may be redesigned as this is still a work in progress. We don’t yet know the exact timing of the revamped Pixel Camera app’s release, but it might not be until later this year, when Google will release Material 3 Expressive on Android 16 through a Pixel Feature Drop.
