India’s smartphone market delivered 34 million units in the first quarter of 2024, up 11.5% year over year, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). Increased shipments for the third straight quarter have been fueled by new product launches, marketing campaigns, and microlending programmes.

Vivo surpassed Samsung to become the most popular smartphone brand in India. Vivo’s strong support for offline partners and its diverse range across multiple price points are credited for this accomplishment. Particularly effective has been Vivo’s strategy concentration on the mass budget market, in which it has a substantial market share.

In spite of releasing new products, Samsung, which is currently ranked second, had a mixed performance. Samsung’s overall shipments decreased even though it saw increase in the premium market, where it now has a 44 percent share, closely trailing Apple.

Poco overtook OnePlus, marking an important milestone. It demonstrated outstanding performance in the online sales arena and became the second leading brand in the entry-level market with over 65 percent year-over-year growth in shipments through the online channel. OnePlus encountered difficulties, most notably in the mid-premium category, where it holds a 38 percent market share and is leading the pack. Even with dominant market shares, OnePlus’s shipments lagged behind rivals like Poco’s expansion.

Apple had a strong first quarter, growing 19% in comparison to the previous year. The iPhone 14 and 15 models, which made up 56% of Apple’s shipments, were the main drivers of the success. With 69 percent of the super-premium market, Apple is still in the lead.

In conclusion, Vivo, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, Apple, Poco, OnePlus, Motorola, and Tecno are the top 10 smartphone brands in Q1 2024. The aforementioned table shows that Poco and Motorola saw notable year-over-year growth of 72% and 110%, respectively.
