Elon Musk, the billionaire businessman who founded xAI in opposition to OpenAI and hopes to use SpaceX to take humans to Mars, has quoted renowned futurologist Ray Kurzweil regarding his prediction that artificial intelligence systems will probably outperform the human intellect in the next five years.
Musk made a similar statement not too long ago, although he specified a far shorter time frame.

Elon Musk shared a tweet from X user @KanekoaTheGreat that included a quote from Joe Rogan’s show in which he discussed Ray Kurzweil, the well-known futurist and longevity enthusiast.
In the passage, Kurzweil and Rogan discuss artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to surpass humans. Kurzweil not only sees this as a given in the future, but he also makes the bold forecast that it will happen by 2029, within the next five years. The expert predicts that by that year, artificial intelligence would surpass human intelligence.
The futurist claimed to have made this forecast 30 years prior, in 1999, and to have been “totally crazy” in the eyes of many, including many international specialists. He said that scientists who attended a scientific conference held by Stanford University came to the conclusion that AI will not surpass humans for a very long time, and most likely not by 2029.
Many, Kurzweil continued, view him as a conservative and believe that artificial intelligence (AI) will surpass human capability in many areas much sooner-“next year or the year after.”
The X community reacted to this in a number of ways, from genuine worry to ironic doubt. Lex Fridman, who has featured Musk on his podcasts on multiple occasions, tweeted that he hopes mankind is going to win against artificial intelligence and anticipates an intriguing future.
