Jesse Armstrong, the creator of Succession, will give Mountainhead, his eagerly awaited new movie, an early release on HBO Max. A group of wealthy pals reunite during a financial crisis in this satirical comedy-drama, which is his first production since the highly renowned series concluded in 2023. Mountainhead’s incisive societal critique and group dynamic have already led to obvious parallels with Succession.

Storyline

Starring as four best friends who name themselves the “Brewsters,” Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef have all found success in their own industries. The bros are all billionaires, with the exception of Schwartzman’s character, “Souper,” which is short for “Soup Kitchen.” The Brewsters gather for a boys’ weekend to talk about taking over the world, among other things, while the world around them collapses.

With its all-too-real portrayal of men who are totally disconnected from reality yet possess the ability to take over our world with a phone call, this dark comedy is both hilarious and disturbing.
