According to reports, Maruti Suzuki is developing an electric MPV and a small MPV that will sit below the Ertiga. These are the two models we have discussed here:

Compact MPV from Maruti Suzuki:

A sub-four-meter MPV that Maruti Suzuki is now working on is meant to take on the Renault Kiger. It will incorporate the upcoming in-house built Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) technology and be inspired by the Suzuki Spacia marketed in Japan. The seven-seater, code-named YDB, will sit below the Ertiga and may be sold through Nexa stores.

It is estimated that the Maruti Suzuki YDB’s 1.2L three-cylinder Z-series petrol engine will power the HEV system, which consists of an electric motor, a battery pack, and other components. It is said to allow for a stated fuel efficiency of more than 35 km/l. Compared to conventional hybrids, Nissan’s e-Power technology will be similar to this system.

Although SUVs are the most popular vehicle on the market, Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga is still the top MPV, and the Innova Hycross-based Invicto premium MPV made its debut a while back. As usual, only time will tell if the introduction of a more volume-focused MPV with high practicality standards and fuel efficiency proves to be a successful package.

Maruti Suzuki Electric Multi-purpose Vehicle:

It’s rumored that Maruti Suzuki is developing a brand-new electric MPV for India. Codenamed YMC internally, it is scheduled to go into production in late 2026 and will utilize the same 27PL platform as the Maruti Suzuki eVX. It’s important to remember that Toyota’s 40PL platform is the source of its 27PL skateboard electric architecture, which will give rise to an eVX sibling with the Toyota name in H2 2025. It is currently unknown if the future e-MPV will lead to the creation of a Toyota equivalent.

The 40 kWh and 60 kWh battery packs, which have a stated driving range of 550 km on a single charge, are among the many similarities between the Maruti Suzuki YMC and the eVX. Up to 10 new automobiles, six of which will be SUVs, are being developed by the nation’s largest automaker and will be introduced within the next three to four years.
