Priyanka Chopra discussed breaking free from traditional and sidekick positions in her Hollywood career. She claimed she was against hiring people of colour.

Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood career has advanced significantly since she played the lead on the US TV series Quantico in 2015. The actor had the lead role in a web series and a romantic comedy this year. She wasn’t cast as an Indian in either of the productions; rather, she was picked for the skills she could offer to the role. Priyanka mentioned in an interview that she has been deliberately looking for jobs that don’t cast her as a sidekick or otherwise stereotype her according to her background.

The actor told Filmfare, “In the last five years, there has been a big demand from actors who say, “I don’t want to be a sidekick anymore. I am sure I did. I didn’t want to tick the box that states, “We made our cast diverse,” i.e., we have an Asian, Indian, etc. That wasn’t anything I desired. And I am aware that many of my colleagues are opposed to doing so.

Citadel, Priyanka’s Prime Video web series, recently received a second season renewal. April 28 marked the start of the first season, which ended on May 26. The next season’s filming will take place in California, and director Joe Russo will be in charge of all the episodes. For the second season, co-stars Lesley Manville, Stanley Tucci, and Richard Madden will also return.
