Chandu Champion, Kabir Khan’s most recent biographical sports movie, picked up steam on its opening Sunday, June 16, following a slow opening weekend on Friday, June 14. With Kartik Aaryan playing the lead, the movie had a nearly 40% increase on Saturday, June 15, and made Rs 10 crore on Sunday.
After three days of release, Chandu Champion has brought in a total of Rs 21.75 crore at the box office, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. On June 14, the movie debuted at theaters, grossing Rs 4.75 crore. It took in Rs 7 crore the next Saturday. On Sunday, the movie’s occupancy rate in Hindi was 32.47% overall, with the largest attendance recorded in the evening showing.
Chandu Champion has an opportunity to keep up its momentum at the ticket counters because Monday is an Eid holiday. The eagerly awaited Kalki 2898 AD by Nag Ashwin, which opens on June 27, could soon present a danger. It is currently up against the horror-comedy Munjya, which has made over 50 crore rupees.
Even though the movie picked up steam on Sunday, Kartik Aaryan’s weekend total is still the second-lowest since Pyar Ka Punchnama, his debut feature. Shehzada, his 2023 release, made Rs 20.20 crore at the conclusion of its first weekend of release, prior to Chandu Champion. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Kartik’s first post-pandemic film, took in Rs 55.96 crore in its first weekend. Satyaprem Ki Katha, the love drama, performed better as well, earning Rs 37.35 crore over the weekend.
On the other hand, Chandu Champion enjoys the rewards of goodwill. IndiaToday.in rated the movie three stars. A portion of the review said, “Kabir Khan’s ability to genuinely believe in his story and create a feel-good watch is what makes ‘Chandu Champion’ worth a watch.” It’s about overcoming obstacles to achieve your goals and fulfilling your potential. It’s about being brave and pursuing your dreams. It involves us on a human level even though it seems routine and cliched.”
Bhuvan Arora, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, and Brijendra Kala are also featured in Chandu Champion.
