It has been reported that Instagram is working on a new feature that will allow users to design their own AI chatbots. The chatbot’s gender, age, ethnicity, personality, and interests can all be customized by users.

Imagine always having a personal assistant at your disposal. Imagine being able to personalize this personal assistant now. If reports are to be believed, Instagram’s upcoming feature might provide exactly this. And if this is true, it may permanently alter how we use social media.

It has been reported that Instagram is developing a feature that will enable users to design their own customized AI chatbots. Although the feature is still in the early stages of development and may never be released, it is exciting to learn about nonetheless.

Instagram will enable users to build AI chatbots

The upcoming feature might let users customize the gender, age, ethnicity, personality, and interests of the chatbots, according to a TechCrunch report. After that, the chatbots could be used as friends, offering support, direction, or even serving as sounding boards for ideas. According to the report, after customizing the chatbot, users can give it a name, an avatar, and a chat window to communicate with it through.

One could, for instance, design a chatbot that specializes in fashion and ask it for suggestions on what to wear to a forthcoming event. Alternatively, a user could build a chatbot that functions as a life coach and ask it for assistance in establishing objectives and conquering obstacles.

It should be mentioned that Instagram hasn’t made any official announcements regarding the launch of this feature, so we still don’t know if it will happen anytime soon. Having said that, it is important to note that this feature may have the dual advantages of lessening the workload of human moderators and increasing platform engagement.
Chatbots may be able to keep users on Instagram for extended periods of time.
Furthermore, some of the duties currently carried out by human moderators, like answering questions from users and removing spam and offensive content, may be replaced by AI chatbots.

The recently released AI assistant from Meta

Meta unveiled its AI assistant at its Connect launch event in September of this year. The AI assistant, known as Meta AI, is reportedly going to be accessible soon on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

“Meta AI is a new personal assistant that you can communicate with on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and soon on Quest 3 and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. It is driven by a proprietary model that utilizes our most recent large language model (LLM) research as well as technologies from Llama 2.
When Meta AI was first introduced, the company posted on its blog, “With our search partnership with Bing, Meta AI has access to real-time information in text-based chats and offers a tool for image generation.”

The company claimed to have launched 28 additional AI chatbots with distinct personalities in addition to MetaAI, along with background narratives. Not only that, but these chatbots will also have social media accounts.

“We partnered with cultural icons and influencers to play and embody some of these AIs. They’ll each have profiles on Instagram and Facebook, so you can explore what they’re all about,” the company had previously stated.
